An Arts Centre

WVCC Recommendation

Build a new arts centre in the Woden Town Centre to meet the needs of the growing communities for cultural activites.

The Issue

The population is growing in the Town Centre however there is not an equitable distribution fo facilites across Canberra. ACT Government grants are primarily allocated to where the facilites are and we are missing out on the culture and the activity generated.

ACT Government Policy

On 28 July the Minister for Arts, Thara Cheyne MLA, released Canberra's Arts, Culture and Creative Policy to 2022 - 2026.

It seeks to create amazing art and culture everywhere, at any time, for everyone.

Impact of not having facilities

Grants and activty are allocated to other areas of Canberra. There are a number of grant types however the ongoing funding for Arts Organosations is indicative of the flow of grant funding.

The Warehouse Circus at the Chifley Primary school received some funding from the ACT Government.

Amp It Up grants

Similalry, withut music venues, grants are allocated to other parts of Canberra.

 Conclusion

We need a strategic plan for the cultural, social, environmental and economic development of Woden.
