Woden infrastructure issues

During 2004 Woden Valley Community Council will again be meeting at the Hellenic Club, and we gratefully acknowledge their generosity in making the Orpheus Room available to us on the first Wednesday of each month. We also wish to again acknowledge the support of The Chronicle by allowing us to use this column to bring matters to the public's attention; and by their obvious interest in local Woden matters.

Our “Public Issues” meetings will generally be every second month beginning March, with Roads ACT making a presentation and then being available to discuss road issues around the Woden area.

The public are especially invited to this meeting on the 3 rd of March, 7.30 pm, to discuss issues of road and storm water infrastructure; safety, speed zones, traffic lights, cycle ways, signage etc. (The public are welcome to attend all our meetings, but it is our intention to generally restrict every second meeting to mainly ‘housekeeping' and council administrative matters.)

Other issues before our council at this stage include the finalisation of the Woden Town Centre Master Plan, the Canberra Spatial Plan, the Concessional Lease Review, and major development applications or preliminary plans such as the proposal to build a seven storey office block on the old DAS sight at the northern end of the Melrose public car park – on the corner of Furzer and Worgan St.

If you have an interest in any of these or other matters relating to Woden, please either contact us or come to meetings. You will be made very welcome. Contact us on 62816682 or by e-mail at david.menzel@bigpond.com.au

David Menzel is Chair of Woden Valley Community Council.
