MiNUTES
1. Present - David, Warwick, Dolores, Mike Barry. Apologies - Anne Walls and John
Kain.
Confirmed Minutes of Exec. Meeting, 17 April 2002.
2. Correspondence. (Invitation from Select Committee on Estimates 2002-2003 re submission and/or appearance). Discussion as to whether WVCC should be involved. David to make further inquiries. Dolores suggested asking if there is money available for altering car park near Library. Warwick suggested seeking funds for a 3D model of Town Centre.
3. Eugene Dyriw from PALM briefed WVCC re proposed colour scheme for Buddhist temple in Torrens. He is the Approval Assurance Officer from Compliance Unit, which investigates complaints about proposed developments and welcomes community input. Ornamental frieze approved, but remainder under review. Suggested that he canvass nearby residents plus the Newsagent and Ethics Real Estate in Torrens shopping centre.
4. Dolores Holmes’ draft letter to Mr Bill Wood MLA, Minister for Urban Services re
Parking in Community Facilities areas, WTC. Circulated to Executive, comments added from
Warwick and John. Preferred time limit now 90 minutes. Defer closure of Brewer Street.
Mike suggested obtaining some publicity if our submission is accepted. Submission to Bill
Wood, copy to Karen MacDonald MLA and Rod Baxter (PALM).
5. Barry Raison’s draft variation (dual occupancy) submission. Already submitted. Dual
Occupancy is now part of Draft Planning Variation 200 (‘Garden City’) open for comment by
29.7.02. Barry to prepare draft response.
6. WVCC’s grant from Chief Minister’s Department. David Menzel reported - approved. Dolores, as acting Treasurer, outlined financial accounting imperatives.
5. Community Facilities Meeting, 18 June, hosted by Rod Baxter and Kerry Browning, PALM. Warwick, Dolores and David attended. David queried extent of existing community facilities and future requirements. (No recent official report available). Possibly another meeting on about 16 July.
6. Developing a WVCC 3D model of WTC? - Already mentioned under 2 above. May be able to get assistance from universities or colleges.
7. WVCC WEB Page. David to report on progress. Jonathon Reynolds has it up and running on his lap-top. David has supplied some material about WVCC. Barry emphasised that our relationship is with the Gungahlin Community Council not the Gungahlin Equity Party,
8. Further WVCC submission/action re proposed 6-storey office block on blocks 56-67 and
60-61. Mike reported via John “Development re-advertised to include parking and traffic.
Existing submissions will be included in Review.” Why no new yellow signs? David and
Mike still concerned about misrepresentation (WVCC has NOT agreed to the proposal.)
David to advise Lincoln Hawkins, Chief Planner.
9. Points/issues for inclusion in WVCC’s submission re WTC Mater Plan Review. David to consolidate the various suggestions already received and prepare araft submission.
10. Main topic for next Public Meeting will be Woden Town Centre Options Report, with the emphasis on community facilities and effect on lifestyle.
11. School/college participation. Rod Baxter and David Menzel doing a presentation on
Woden Town Centre proposals at Melrose High School on 21.6.02.
Mike suggested sponsoring a photography or art prize for students on a local topic. Winning
entry/entries to be displayed in Library and publicised. Mike to prepare in more detail.
Dolores suggested inviting students to our meetings
12. Mike to circulate “Patterns of community representation in City/State”.
13. Dolores suggested we reconsider our Constitution and possibly have a special meeting on
it.
14. PACCT. Do we want to be part of this umbrella organisation? Executive members to pass their views on this issue and their proposed Constitution to David.
15. Public participation. Dolores queried frequency of Public Meetings, suggesting quarterly instead of every 2 months. David preferred us to be as open and available as possible, but to only publicise topical meetings. Mike suggested a Christmas function to thank contributors.
